LAS VEGAS — Maxim, the racy monthly "lad mag," plans to lend its name to a more than $1.2 billion hotel casino that would open in 2010 on the Las Vegas Strip, the publisher said Monday.

Maxim plans to partner with real estate developer Concord Wilshire Partners LLC to build the 2,300-room Maxim Hotel & Casino with a 60,000-square foot casino on nine acres just north of the Circus Circus casino hotel.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2007.

"It's going to be upscale, it's going to be four-star, it's going to be sexy and flirtatious, absolutely," said Barry Pincus, director of brand development for Maxim publisher Dennis Publishing Inc. "But it'll also be fun, it'll be comfortable."

A management company would run the casino and hotel, Pincus said. Maxim would gain licensing fees from the operation, which would also include a 3,000-seat concert venue, pool, spa, retail stores, restaurants and a nightclub called Maxim Lounge.

About 2,000 of the rooms are expected to be condominium units that can be rented as hotel rooms when the owners are not there, Pincus said.

$500,000 Venetian Freeroll Starts Tomorrow
Winner Receives $150,000

There’s going to be a lot of happy people walking out of the Venetian’s cardroom this weekend.

The Venetian $500,000 Freeroll Tournament starts Friday, and 200 players out of a little more than 360 walk away from the Strip property with a piece of the prize pool.

The winner of the freeroll receives $150,000 and the rest of the top 10 receive $75,000, $50,000, $40,000, $30,000, $20,000, $15,000, $10,000, $6,000 and $4,000.

Players qualified for the freeroll by accumulating 50 hours of play for each month of May, June and July, or a total of 200 hours of rated play by July 31. More than 360 players qualified.

The three-day event starts Friday. Those who crack the 200 mark will receive at least $200. Players who crack the 100 player mark will receive $500; the 50 player mark, $750; the 40 player mark, $1,000; the 30 player mark, $1,250; and the 20 player mark, $2,000.

Registration for the event starts at 10 a.m. and the cards go in the air at noon.

Wireless Texas Hold'em Poker Coming to Casinos
Harrah's Brand Moves With the Future

Progressive Gaming International Corporation (PGIC) is set to help casinos make more money than ever before with the introduction of a new way to play Texas hold’em poker. Using the World Series of Poker “Peer to Peer” Texas hold’em game, players will be able to play poker on wired or wireless devices away from the traditional poker table.

Players will play poker on a secure intranet server managed from within casinos that have the legal jurisdiction to offer this type of service. This unique service will allow players to play poker in restaurants, clubs, and possibly even their rooms. This futuristic solution not only benefits players by giving them greater access to the tables, but also helps casinos make use of unused gaming space.

According to Harrah’s senior vice president of gaming Ken Weil, this product is a perfect fit for casinos around the globe.

The World Series of Poker “Peer to Peer” Texas hold’em gaming system provides operators with the ability to offer their patrons the opportunity to participate in exciting Texas hold’em poker game competitions that capture the excitement of an authentic WSOP experience,” he said in a recent press release.

PGIC President and CEO Russ McMeeking sees a profitable future ahead for his company.

“We believe that the ‘Peer to Peer’ system, both the wired and/or wireless versions, has a potential global marketplace of over 5,000 legalized gaming venues. We are delighted and honored to partner on this very exciting global initiative, which is intended to leverage our extensive acquisition and development investments in secure thin-client wired and wireless server-based technology.

PGIC will showcase its new product in the upcoming global gaming show taking place in November in Las Vegas.

Trump's Taj Mahal to Host CEO Poker Tournament



The CEO Poker Tour has announced that its 2007 CEO Poker Tournament will be held May 19-25, 2007, at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The series of tournaments, with buy-ins ranging from $500 to $5,000, is open to business executives looking to battle/network at the poker table for the chance at cash prizes.

Commenting on the location for the event, William Peraza, the CEO of CEOPoker (and thus eligible to play), said, “We wanted to choose an East Coast location that would support the concept of executives battling over the green felt of the poker table, and where better than in a Trump casino.”

While Mr. Trump himself likely won’t be seated among the CEOs at the poker table (he’s too busy feuding with Rosie O’Donnell and getting ready for the new season of “The Apprentice”), the mere mention of his name in this post is reason enough for us to share news about Miss USA Tara Conner, who Trump famously gave a second chance after rumors of her drug use and late night escapades with Miss Teen USA and others. The New York Post’s Page Six is reporting that Playboy has offered Conner a spread once she gets out of rehab. “If Trump allowed her to do it, it would have to be in good taste,” an insider told Page Six.
